Robert Kostick

Assistant Professor Robert Kostick graduated from Leslie University with a BA degree. His more than 15 years of professional experience as a commercial designer is brought into the courses he teaches with his expertise in graphic and web design. At present he is completing his MFA at Vermont College in Montpelier, Vermont. Recent creative research refocuses the designer’s attention beyond the craftsmanship of creating client-driven designs to the creation of works that more personally represent his ideas, experiences, and observations. His current work seeks to explore the vast possibilities of visually representing "objective" or statistical information. In his design for the 2004 Biennial Keene State College Art Faculty Exhibition, Professor Kostick used the conflict in Iraq as the subject for a objective interpretation of data. The large wall installation titled "Numbers" was a visual representation of the death toll during the war. Current projects explore (through photography, video, and web design) the subject of "identity" with a particular focus on the cultural and societal involvement (and responsibility) of the artist. Inquiry into Postmodern Theory; Representation, Myth, Culture, and Design and An artist pressures the system and reveals its invisible structure: Hans Haacke and the Guggenheim Museum are two papers he has presented recently at the Vermont College.
