Roos
Associate Professor Peter Roos brings a wide array of studies and skills
to the Art Program. He received two BFA degrees, one in Interdisciplinary
Studies in Architecture and Art from Syracuse University in 1977 and a second
in Painting and Printmaking from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1981. His
MFA is in Painting and Drawing from the Art Institute of Chicago. In 1987,
Professor Roos was awarded a prestigious Fulbright Award to study and paint
in Denmark. He has taught painting, drawing, watercolor, Senior Seminar
and printmaking at Keene State College since 1990. His professional work
is primarily in the medium of oil painting and explores psychological views
of the figure and portraiture. However in recent years he has widened his
studio work to include encaustic wax painting as well as investigations
into digital work. He was awarded a Keene State College Faculty Development
Grant, in 2000, to explore book making and Photo Shop. Over the past two
years he has begun to work in the field of digital photography. He has begun
to shoot imagery and design posters for the Keene State College Theater
Department and the Apple Hill Chamber Music Ensemble. Over the years, Professor
Roos’ creative work has been exhibited in galleries in Chicago, the
Sazama Gallery; the Swope Museum in Terre Haute, Indiana; and at the Bedford
Museum in Bedford, Connecticut. In the fall of 2004, he has been invited
to return to the Art Institute of Chicago to participate in a day-long painting
marathon.
