The Chemistry Department provides comprehensive B.A. and B.S. degree programs for students interested in pursuing a career in chemistry and other chemically related sciences. Major programs in chemistry (B.A. and B.S.) and chemistry/physics (B.S.), including a teacher certification option, are complemented by additional offerings in the Division of Sciences such as biology, environmental science, mathematics, computer science, and geology. Students considering a major in Chemistry should consult a member of the Department as early as possible, preferably during their first year. This will help in the election of a program which best fits their interests and abilities and which makes full use of previous preparation. Programs provide support for students considering careers in chemistry, chemical physics, biochemistry, biophysical chemistry, biomedical research, medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine and secondary school science teaching.

The minimum requirements for B.A. degree in chemistry are General Chemistry (I & II), Organic Chemistry (I & II), Quantitative Analysis, Physical Chemistry (I & II), Biochemistry and 6 credits of Chemistry Electives. In addition several of these courses require successful completion of work in other departments, including Biology, Mathematics and Physics.

The minimum requirements for B.S. degree in chemistry are General Chemistry (I & II), Organic Chemistry (I & II), Quantitative Analysis, Physical Chemistry (I & II), Inorganic Chemistry, Instrumental Analysis and 7 credits of Chemistry Electives. In addition several of these courses require successful completion of work in other departments, including Biology, Mathematics and Physics.
