What is Geography?
Geography
is a spatial science
that incorporates many aspects
of the Earth and,
as such is closely related
to other disciplines. The
geography department
offers a broad perspective
on the entire field, including
cultural, physical,
resource management,
and Geographic Information
Systems. Geography
professors encourage critical
thinking and foster active
participation in the program.
Field studies form an integral
component of the
program of studies. Graduates
leave with a synthesized
view of the world
and understand its purpose
and meaning.
The
department prides
itself on having professors
dedicated to teaching
and research. Three of
the five full-time faculty
have been awarded the
Alumni Distinguished Teacher
of the Year award and
one has received the college's
Faculty Distinction in
Research and Scholarship
Award. Faculty
often encourage students
to participate in their
research and investigations.
Students normally build
strong one-on-one relationships
with the professors
and collaborative
research is the hallmark
of the department.
The department is also
sponsors the New Hampshire
Geographic Alliance, an
organization dedicated
to enhancing geographic
education in the
state's public schools.
The department also
publishes and occasional
paper series, Studies
in New England Geography ,
to broaden public
awareness of geographic
issues. |
