After completing my Masters of Arts in Geography from UCONN last spring I started the Ph.D. program in Geography this past fall at UCONN. My research interests include geographic information systems and their use in linear modeling in location analysis, public use GIS projects, and economic geography. This semester I am assisting an undergraduate cartography course and a graduate GIS course as well as working at the University of Connecticut's Map and Geographic Information Center where I have been involved with a project to "gis" all of Connecticut's historical aerial photographs. After I graduate I hope to work in academia as a geography professor. Keene State's Geography Department gave me a strong foundation to build my career in geography from. I still go back to notes from my Dr. Rydant's economic geography course if I need to review Ricardo or von Thunen. When I graduated from KSC I had good technical, statistical, and theoritcal skills in geography to help me th rough grad school.

Tom Fischetti - class of '06
In my time at Uconn, I will be working with Dr. Alex Vias examining urban change, particularly employment in cities. My interests include Urban Studies, GIS, and my personal favorite Cultural Geography. In my time at Keene State, I gained my passion for Geography in Professor Miller's World Regional Geography class. Over the remainder of my time in Keene I enrolled myself in as many Geography classes that were offered. Also while at Keene I was able to travel far and wide thanks to the Geography Department. It began with Portland, then Central Europe, and finally at the AAG conference in Chicago.

Stephanie Derrick - class of '06
Currently I am working on a Masters degree in Geography at UConn. My research interests include Geographic Information Systems (GIS), cartography, and urban geography. For my Masters thesis, I will be working with Dr. Cromley on a project using GIS and most likely location analysis techniques. I am also a teaching assistant for an undergraduate Geography class. The Keene State Geography Department provided me with skills that have allowed me to succeed so far in graduate school.

Hometown: Fairport, N.Y.
Major: Geography, because it allows me to learn about the world and provides gateways to experience it.
Activities: Captain of women's soccer and lacrosse, tutor at the Center for Writing. Traveled to Prague in July 2004, through USA Athletes International, to play in a lacrosse tournament with other top players from the Little East Conference.
International/National Exchange: Studied at the University of Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia, for a semester; participated in a month-long whitewater canoe/backpacking trip in the Owyhees in Oregon.
KSC changed me in this way: It has given me the opportunity to grow as an athlete, student, and woman. I have met many amazing people, seen some of the world, and developed confidence as a leader.
