The Modern Language Association (MLA)
Founded in 1883, The MLA provides opportunities for its members to share their scholarly findings and teaching experiences with colleagues and to discuss trends in the academy. MLA on the Web offers information on membership, jobs in the field of language and literature, annual conventions, publications of the MLA, prizes and awards, and MLA style, including updated guidelines for electronic citation.

National Council of Teachers of English
The National Council of Teachers of English, the world's largest subject-matter educational association, is devoted to improving the teaching of English and the language arts at all levels of education.

The Association for the Study of Literature and Environment (ASLE).
The Association for the Study of Literature and Environment, ASLE, (pronounced "az-lee") was founded in October 1992 to promote the exchange of ideas and information pertaining to literature that considers the relationship between human beings and the natural world. The ASLE Web site offers information on publications and programs of ASLE, conferences and events, discussion lists, electronic archives and related resources.

The Library of Congress.
A comprehensive resource for access to holdings that chronicle the history of American life and culture. Includes links to other research libraries, current exhibits, a calendar of events, and full text access to current bills under consideration by the United States House of representatives and Senate.

American Studies Electronic Crossroads.
The American Studies Crossroads Project is an international networking and curriculum innovation project sponsored by the American Studies Association and funded with major grants from the U.S. Department of Education and the Annenberg/CPB Project.

The Academy of American Poets
Founded in 1934 to support American poets at all stages of their careers and to foster the appreciation of contemporary poetry. The Academy is the largest organization in the country dedicated specifically to the art of poetry. The Academy web site offers information on local, regional and national events in poetry; individual poets; and much more.

The Charles Sanders Peirce Web Site
Charles Sanders Peirce (pronounced like "purse") was an American philosopher, scientist, and humanist. The Peirce web site provides a range commentary on Peirce's work and links to other sites dedicated to Peirce studies.

The Kenneth Burke Society
The Kenneth Burke Society seeks to promote the study, understanding, dissemination of, research on, critical analysis of, and preservation of the works of and about Kenneth Burke. The Kenneth Burke web site includes links to organizations, discussion groups and archives of material on Burke.
