Role and Responsibility of the Composer:
The 2013 Call for Scores is being put forward in conjunction with a campus-wide symposium at Keene State College, entitled “Finding Your Place in the Evolving Commons.”  To that end, the performance of the winning composition in this year’s Call for Scores will take place on Wednesday, November 6 at 2pm, following a panel discussion which will address the role of music in the evolving cultural commons.  The winning composer will be asked to serve on this panel, to talk about his/her composition, and to interact with other panelists in front of a campus-wide audience comprised of music students, music faculty, and guests from across campus.  The winning composer will be reimbursed up to $300 (in addition to the $1,000 Call for Scores prize) for travel and hotel expenses associated with his/her campus visit.

About the Competition
Keene State College Department of Music is committed to bringing new works to its campus, in an effort to introduce new music to our students and to help contribute to a long and successful lineage in the creation of new works.  Each year, a different KSC professional or student ensemble may be chosen to present the new work.  The winning composition of the Keene State College 2013 Call for Scores will be performed by faculty members in the Department of Music.  To that end, submissions to the 2013 Call for Scores will be viewed by an in-house committee of faculty performers and composers.  A winner will be announced by August 15, 2013.

An application fee of $20 per entry will be used to compensate adjunct faculty performers.  Keene State College current and former faculty, students, and alumni are not eligible to apply for the 2013 Call for Scores.  Keene State College and adjudicators for the 2013 Call for Scores reserve the right to award no winner.  In the case that no winner is chosen, all application fees will be returned.  Questions may be directed to Professor Heather Gilligan at hgilligan@keene.edu.
