Service Learning ::

Service learning combines community service with explicit academic learning objectives, preparation for community involvement, and deliberate reflection. Students enrolled in a course entitled “Community Studies” (offered through the Sociology Department and Keene State College's Community Research Center ) develop research and professional skills while assisting non-profit and public agencies with their research needs.

Student researchers have recently worked on the following projects:

In the fall of 2005, student researchers met with a task force at Home Healthcare Services in Keene to design and pilot an employee survey that will evaluate perceptions of core job characteristics and identify ways to improve the organization. During the spring 2006 semester, the students will help administer the survey and analyze the results.

Student researchers have been actively involved in a multi-year evaluation of the Tech Partners Program implemented by the Center for Instruction Research, Technology and Training in Keene . Students have collected and analyzed data from surveys, classroom observations, personal and focus group interviews to be included in a summary report to the New Hampshire Department of Education.

Student researchers are actively involved in conducting a multi-year evaluation of the Suicide Prevention Program recently developed by the Counseling Center at KSC. Students will observe training sessions, analyze training evaluations, and conduct interviews with key support personnel on campus. The data will be summarized in a yearly report to the Federal funding source.
