Welcome to the General Science Education program at Keene State. This major was established in 2002 as a result of an NSF grant, Project Inspire, to Drs. Jean, Harkay, and Wolf. Our students perceive as the main strengths of this program the breadth of science courses to which they are exposed, the mentoring they receive at Keene State, the integration of science and education, and the inclusion of courses which stress a feeling of "comfort and confidence" with regard to the ability to teach science topics successfully in grades K-8. Another aspect which seems to appeal to students is the application of inquiry methods to learning science. it is our hope that our graduates will teach as they were taught. In the core courses, we also try to provide a learning environment in which "the student becomes the scientist". Keene State has a highly regarded Education program with a strong and dedicated faculty and now we have a major which addresses the national need for people with the ability to teach science effectively. Jobs are abundant (this need has been recognized as a national priority), salaries are good, and graduates are considered "Highly Qualified". Included on the links page are some to several State Departments of Education. The can be browsed for salaries by state and demand for science educators, along with employment trends and guidelines set by the "No Child Left Behind" legislation. If you are not currently enrolled in this major and are interested in a teaching career, read on. If you are enrolled, we offer a number of resources, panning, links to faculty, and announcements. Graduates will be listed and ties maintained with Keene State via this site. All
of the science courses
in this program are
taught in the new
