Dance

The Dance option offers a modern dance based curriculum balancing theoretical and applied coursework with specializations in Choreography and Performance or Dance Teacher Education. In either specialization, as a dance major you will focus on modern dance technique, choreography, performance, and dance history. Additional courses in ballet, jazz, and dance teacher education support the curriculum. Each year students perform and present their choreography in our fully produced main stage dance concert, in student-choreographed productions, and in class presentations. Other exciting dance opportunities offered are yearly adjudication concerts of choreography and performance at the regional conference of the American College Dance Festival Association, residencies and master classes with visiting professional dance companies (Kate Weare Company, Keigwin & Company, Rubberbandance Group, Paul Taylor, and Alvin Ailey, to name a few) and student performances of choreography by guest artists (most recently, Pilobolus, Sean Curran, and Robert Battle).

The Dance program welcomes all interested dance students -- many students come to Keene State College with no Modern Dance experience and immediately find the connection between their dance training and modern dance.  With careful advising, students can integrate their Dance specialization with other academic majors and minors to pursue careers in performance, education, movement therapy, arts management and arts criticism.
