Creating a World of Possibilities …..

Graduate Certificate Program Administration
Admission
Candidates for admission to the Graduate Certificate in Safety & Health Management must submit the appropriate application, including all required materials, to The Post-Baccalaureate Safety Committee (PBSC). At this point in time The Safety Center at Keene State College is in the process of designing a Master of Science Degree in Safety & Health Applied Science.  If approved by Keene State College and the University System of New Hampshire, the courses completed in this Graduate Certificate program will be fully transferable to the Master’s Degree program.  NOTE:  There will be additional admittance criteria to be matriculated into the Graduate Degree program.  Any future M.S. in Safety & Health Applied Science will need to be approved by the College and the University System.  While this proposal has received preliminary support, there is no guarantee, at this time, that the Master’s program will ultimately be implemented.

Candidates for admission to the first startup group in the Graduate Certificate in Safety & Health Management must submit an application for Advanced Study in Safety, including required materials (transcripts, etc.), to the The Post-Baccalaureate Safety Committee (PBSC).  All material must arrive no later than the end of the business day July 15, 2007. To be considered for admission to the program the following must be submitted:

  • Application to the Graduate Certificate in Safety and Health Management program

Official copies of all undergraduate and graduate transcripts (Showing a cumulative GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale)

Verification of one year full-time employment as a Safety Professional with a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline. This verification must be in the form of a letter from your employer (Past or Present)

Two letters of recommendation for Graduate Study

An admissions essay

  • *In extraordinary circumstances the PBSC can waive any of the admissions criteria by a unanimous vote of the full membership.

The Post-Baccalaureate Safety Committee (PBSC) will consist of all tenure-track Safety Faculty with the exception of those on leave of absence or sabbatical.  Admission to these advanced classes will be limited and the PBSC will make the final decision on admission

The initial startup group will be limited to a maximum of fifteen students.  Any application completed by the stated deadline but not accepted for the first cycle will be evaluated for admittance to the program at a later time.

Keene State College reserves the right to close admissions irrespective of the stated deadlines. Once accepted, students are required to submit a $50.00 nonrefundable enrollment services fee.

Program applicants must enroll in the four specific core certificate courses as offered. No credits completed at another institution may be transferred into the graduate certificate program.

The Graduate Certificate in Safety & Health Management is administered collaboratively by The Safety Center at Keene State College and The Office of Continuing Education and Extended Studies. The Continuing Education Office coordinates the admissions process and notifies students of acceptance into the graduate certificate program. The Registrar’s Office maintains academic records. The Office of Continuing Education and The Post-Baccalaureate Safety Committee (PBSC) will monitor students who enroll in the graduate certificate program in order to assist them in the admissions process and course completion.

ESSAY

Since writing is crucial component of any Graduate level program, the Graduate Certificate in Safety & Health Management requires submission of a short essay as part of the application process.  The topic for the essay is What is the Safety Profession and Why is this program important to Me? (the applicant).  While there are no minimum requirements, the essay should not exceed 500 words.  The essay should follow a generally accepted format with proper attention to citation and acknowledgement of any external materials.
